Nuun Hydration Electrolyte Tablet Review
It’s been ten years since Nuun first launched their electrolyte tablets; since then, their great tasting tablets and quirky branding has seen them go from strength to strength. To mark this ten year milestone, Nuun has launched 5 new flavours: grape, strawberry lemonade, tropical, lemon tea and fruit punch. The new flavours take their range to a total of 11 flavours.
So what is Nuun?
Nuun essentially prevents cramping and helps you keep your hydration levels up during training, racing or even day to day life. The tablets contain sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and B2 to keep you topped up on essential electrolytes when mixed with water. You just drop a tablet into your water bottle as you’re heading out the door and you’re good to go.
What’s the taste like? I’ve been a fan of Nuun since first trying them in 2010, I love the idea that you can just add instant flavour and electrolytes to your water. When it comes to the new flavours, my outright favourite is strawberry lemonade; it’s a little different to boring old strawberry and really does taste great. Tropical and fruit punch come in a close joint second, both again have that subtle and lovely taste that Nuun pride themselves on. I’ve never been a fan of flavoured teas, and as such lemon tea didn’t quite float my boat, but I handed a couple of them round to the tea lovers out there and got some great feedback, it’s just personal preference!
Does it work?
I find that the main benefit in having flavourings and electrolytes integrated into your hydration is that you actually look forward to drinking it, and as such stay on top of your hydration strategy. Whilst I’ve never had significant issues with cramping on the bike, I’ve found that when doing bike to run, or brick, sessions, Nuun has eliminated some cramping issues I used to experience towards the end of my run sessions.
Summary
Nuun’s put out some great additions to their existing range, with the same great formula and a cool new brand image. From the entire range, I’d like to recommend Kona Kola, Lemon & Lime and Strawberry Lemonade; spice up your water, keep drinking and keep hydrated, easy!
