Altura Classic Review
They breed ‘em tough in North Yorkshire. That’s the home of Altura, who produce a range of cycling clothing and bags for commuters, off-roaders and racers.
They claim to test their products – which range from technical MTB garments to classy retro jerseys and accessories – in the demanding landscape and climate of the Yorkshire Moors and Dales.
Ha, so they think that’s tough? I took to the edge of the Cairngorm National Park in Scotland to put their products through the test – in November!!!!
I’ll be reviewing their autumn/winter range of Ergofit and Raceline clothing next week, but this week I thought I’d start with a couple of items from their Classics range.
Altura Classic Long-Sleeved Jersey, £49.99
From a distance, it looks as smart and stylish as anything from a high-end brand such as Rapha. Up close it doesn’t appear too shabby either, though it’s more polyester than curdled yak’s hair. I wore it up to the top of my nearest mountain (see video) on a cool but windless day. Underneath I had an Altura Thermocool baselayer(reviewed next week). I didn’t overheat, was still dry at the top, but the descent was distinctly chilly. Definitely not a winter layer, but a very adequate, lightweight and eye-catching autumn jersey. Three pockets and a sliver of reflective strip on the back.
Value for money: 4/5
Altura Classic Cap, £9.99.
Nice bit of retro styling. The Altura logo uses a very classy font, so you don’t mind it being on the underside of the cap’s peak as well as the top. Looks good with a couple of days’ worth of stubble.
Value for money: 4/5
